Somehow my user set it up as a shared workbook which locked out the text boxes. Neither Office 2010 nor Office 2013 could open it. Unable To Insert Text Box In Excel
in 2003 those text boxes were editable, but now in 2010 we can only edit the text box if we unshare the workbook. Not efficient. For more information, see Select or deselect controls on a worksheet.
I need to edit the text in those boxes, and I can't figure out how to access the text! Sorry I can't fully explain but maybe if you change whatever text wrapping option you currently have, it'll work. Because Excel is not in Design mode, when you try to select an ActiveX control, you might unintentionally start an action, such as running a macro or selecting a check box. Now the Insert Shapes button is greyed out, as well, the existing shapes on the sheet cannot be edited. Does swap space have a file System?
Insert it somewhere (if you don't want to use it, then delete it), now you'll be able to select your textbox.
